Engineered Wood Flooring is a type of hardwood flooring that is made with multiple wood layers that are glued together in a cross grain construction. Engineered Wood Flooring is more stable than solid wood and is less likely to shrink and expand due to changes in humidity and temperature.

Some engineered floors do not have to nailed or stapled because the planks lock to each other or some products can be glued to the subfloor instead. This type of wood floor can even be installed over concrete. Engineered Wood Floors are often easier compared to solid woods for Do It Yourself installations because of the flexibility they provide.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring is an environmentally friendly flooring option because it requires only half of the wood that solid wood floors require for manufacturing. The inner layers of this type of flooring are usually made from faster growing, renewable woods species. This type of flooring can be made using from 3 to 12 layers of wood.

When looking for engineered flooring, find out the specie and the thickness of the top layer of wood. The durability of the flooring depends heavily on which wood species are used on the top layer. If the top layer of this flooring is too thin then the wood cannot be refinished.
